A 6 year old, 65lb Rottweiler. Murphy is very sweet! He loves all people including children but he was surrendered due to issues with dog aggression towards the families other dog. We have not yet… seen this side of Murphy and as it often goes with surrenders the full story and situation are unknown. Murphy is currently happily residing with 3 large breed dogs in his foster home and one of those dogs is a large dominant Rottweiler. Murphy is doing very well and is happy to share his toys, bones and food with his foster siblings. Murphy has also proven to get along very well with the other dogs he has met and we are hoping to have him start daycare soon to continue his socialization. At this point Murphy would do best in a home that will keep him under control around new dogs until a relationship is formed and further training is completed. Murphy’s new home should be able to offer him a calm, assertive, organized atmosphere so he can learn to be part of a pack, and not worry about being the pack leader. He would be very well suited to many families providing cats are not part of the equation. Murphy has never lived with cats before and he wants nothing more than to chase them when he sees one.
Murphy has been assessed by a reputable trainer and she feels that he is a wonderful dog with great potential. She says he is very trainable and that he did extremely well in her assessment of him around a new dog. She feels that with some continued training (which she will offer at a discounted rate!) he will be a great family pet.
Murphy is housebroken and non-destructive when left alone. He does however suffer from separation anxiety and in his desperate attempt to be with his people he does bark and whine when left alone. He is also a bit of an escape artist and he will go over or under a non-secure fence to find his people if left alone in the yard. Murphy would do best in a home where someone is around more often than not.
Murphy is learning to walk well on leash and he loves to run and play with his ball in the yard. He is a moderate energy dog who doesn’t need a ton of exercise. Murphy likes nothing better than to curl up at your feet and sleep while you relax. A good play in the yard with his ball or a nice walk is all he needs but, he can keep up just fine if you like to hike, bike or run.
With some love and training Murphy will make someone a great friend and he so desperately needs a family of his own that will spoil him the way he deserves. Murphy is a sweet dog, you can see it in his eyes!
