In Memory

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

Bear has gone to the Rainbow Bridge with so many others. We are thankful that he spent the short amount of time with us that he did. Rest easy sweet boy.

Belle.jpg
Belle @ The Rainbow Bridge

Age: 7        Breed: rottweiler

March 2011
Belle found her forever home with Sharon and Steve and Jackson but left them suddenly this month. Everyone at West Coast Rottweiler Rescue misses this girl and we know that the Piper household will never be the same without her

Belle is a mature (6 - 7) yr old female that found herself in a shelter. In the spring the shelter thought they had found her a home but last month WCRR was asked to take her into care as the family no longer wanted her.
She is a sweet sweet dog. Belle gets along with everyone and everything. She makes friend very quickly and is gentle with everyone. In the past Belle has had some issues with incontenence but since her weight loss program and regular access to the outside there has been no problems. Belle is on a food that is not only reasonable in cost but has done her a world of good. She is getting regular suppliments that help with her joints. She does have torn liaments in her back legs but again since her weight loss she is much better and our vets don't recommend any intervention.
Here is what we would love for a home for Belle.
She loves other dogs, Young dogs, old dogs, puppy dogs. She loves them all and we would like to see her to go a family that already has a dog or has many dogs visiting.
We want Belle to live inside your home. But she's an older girl and needs bathroom breaks so either someone that is home during the day or that has the ability to allow her access to the outside.
While she can manage stairs, we would prefer that she not have to do many of them.
Older children should be just fine.
This girl deserves a chance at a home that will look past her age and see the love she has for everyone.
The pictures don't do Belle justice. She is a little camera shy. But this girl is beautiful, inside and out. If you think you can offer Belle the life she so deserves please ask us for an application.

Cola_Peggy.jpg
Cola @ WCRR foster care

Age: 11        Breed: Rottweiler

The love story has come to a close:
Cola was helped to cross the bridge last week. She was well loved and cared for and no one could of asked for a better ending. But hearts are broken because she is gone. I need to thank Peggy for caring for her and Colleen for bringing them together.
Fly free sweet girl. You are very missed

Cola is in long term foster care. She will not be adopted because of her age.
Cola is not your usual abandoned dog. Cola was much loved. So much loved that she lived in a truck with her owner right up to the time he had to go to the hospital. It was then that he turned to a local shelter for help for her. And they called us.

I had no place for Cola to go. I told them I would ask around but the hopes of finding an 11 yr old Rottweiler a home are slim. But I sent the email and pleaded for help. And that email went around and around and around. Until it found Colleen. She only had to look at Cola's picture to know that Cola would be good for her mom.

Peggy is an active independant 82 yr old woman. She lives on the same property as Colleen but maintains her own residence. Peggy is a animal lover from way back but she had lost her last dog over the winter.

I took Cola to visit Peggy on the Sunshine Coast. It was clear that it was a match made in heaven. Cola and Peggy go for very slow walks together just to the end of the road for the mail and then back home again. Then there is the naps, sitting on the porch watching the horses and guarding against squirels.
Cola is being fostered with Peggy. West Coast Rottweiler Rescue will always take care of Cola's medical needs. We have had her teeth cleaned and a couple taken out, some x-rays done so we know how her hips are and some warts removed from her eyes. The future for Cola will be considered Palliative Care only. We will maintain her health as long as we can.

If you would like to donate to Cola's care, please let us know.

Gus  - The Notweiler @ WCRR

Age: 12        Breed: Lab cross

Gus Passed away on June 20th. Far too soon. He leaves a hole in our hearts

Yes we have a lab. No he is not a Rottweiler. But Gus is an amazing old boy. This poor man is 12 yrs old and found himself in the shelter. That is no place for a boy of this age. It is no secret that I have a love of old dogs. Big black old dogs. Big black old dogs almost never get adopted. So we asked if he could come and be part of West Coast Rottweiler Rescue. Don’t ask me why I do this. I don’t know. I only know that I am thrilled to have Gus in our home. He is the perfect guest (almost) and the little diva dog adores him now.
We would release Gus to a permanent foster home. But he has special needs and they would have to be met. Gus is very overweight and he needs lots of gentle exercise. Stuff like swimming or short walks will work with him. But be aware that Gus is agile enough to make it up on the couch for a cuddle and if he sees something he likes he does pull on the leash. There is nothing much more that he loves than to lay his sweet blocky head on your lap and gaze into your eyes. Gus also has some arthritis and needs a home with few or no stairs. And he wants someone who is home during the day to spend time with him. He has not been tested with cats but we found he doesn’t really like the neighborhood cat and will chase if given a chance.
We are looking for Gus’s angel. Someone that will take him into their home, give him a good diet and exercise, love and respect. In return Gus will make you laugh with his grunting, cuddle quietly by your side and look lovingly at you when you talk to him. West Coast Rottweiler Rescue will pay for Gus’s medical needs.

Kayla @ WCRR

Age: 7        Breed: Rotti Cross

Kayla was a dog that so many people failed. We will never know her whole story, but we know that Kayla could not be trusted any longer around people. We held her softly while she was released from her demons. Kayla is now happy and safe at the rainbow bridge.

Ruby @ WCRR

Age: 9        Breed: Rotti Cross

Hello my name is Ruby and I'm a 9 year old Rottweiler. I lived with my family my whole life, I can't understand why they abandoned me, Im a really good dog.

I was pretty confused when I first came and I cried every night but now I understand that my foster mom really loves me and she says that I could stay here forever. I love everyone I meet, dogs, cats, people, little people and even horses. I get along great with my foster brother, he says he's the boss dog and thats OK by me, I'm easy going. My foster mom says Im a breed ambassador, Im not sure what that is but if it means I get an extra cookie then I'm all for it. I love my new life, when we get up in the morning we go outside to play in the yard. We each grab a ball and chase each other around. My foster brother and I get 2 walks every day, we live in a beautiful place I love exploring my new home. When we come home from our morning walk we have breakfast. My foster mom says I need to lose some weight, I think I'm beautiful but she says I will feel better and be able to go on longer walks and that sounds good to me. I'm a happy girl, my little nub of a tail wiggles all the time. I'm a talker that means I make noise when I think its time to eat breakfast or dinner, I make noise when I think its time to go for a walk and I make noise when I think my foster mom should give me a cuddle. Well thats all for now, thanks for listening.

Ruby came to us when she was abandoned at a home she was boarding at. We were contacted by Ruby's owners asking us to take her into our program. WCRR does not take owner surrenders but we did find a place for Ruby to go while her owners looked for housing. The agreement was done so that Ruby COULD go back to those people that she loved. Organizations were trying to help her owners but, for whatever reasons, her owners never got back to anyone. It seemed that they just didn't care. When WCRR realized that Ruby had been abandoned, we contacted the owners letting them know we could not care for Ruby unless she was signed over to us. A dog of this age will of course need medical attention and without the proper paperwork we couldnt legally do that. Once they realized that Ruby COULD end up in a shelter, they faxed paperwork to us. Ruby will stay in foster care as the transition to a new home would simple be too stressful for her. If you would like to help with Ruby's care we will earmark any donations sent in just for her.
